Occhiali Seamount
Despite the fact that this elevation is easily recognizable in the charts, no official name is available. This seamount is located to the west of the Santa Lucia Bank and it is well known by professional and sport fishermen as fishing hot spot. Even if this elevation is still officially unnamed, it is commonly known as “Secca degli Occhiali” or “Occhiali di Santa Lucia”, likely because it is characterized by two peaks (Occhiali means glasses) at the depths of 280 m and 457 m, this last located at 43.53714°N – 9.27459°E (Dr. Edio Lovece, personal communication).
No information about the benthic and pelagic communities has been found in the scientific literature.
